One Year Later: What Christmas Taught Us About God’s Faithfulness

One year ago today, Lisa and I woke up to a beautiful Christmas morning. As we sipped our coffee and joyfully talked about our “vacation” to Scotland, we had no idea God had something entirely different in mind — because:
“A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.”Proverbs 16:9
That same day, we filmed our very first YouTube video — Journey with the Weavers. Sitting on our couch, we shared our simple plan: visit Scotland and maybe give God a year on a mission trip.
Looking back now, I can almost picture God smiling and saying:
“Ah… that’s cute.”
Because what He had planned was far more than we imagined.
A Year Full of God’s Miracles
Since that day, we could honestly write a book about everything God has done:
answered prayers
supernatural provision
open doors
healing
moments of confirmation
grace upon grace
Truly:
“God is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine.”Ephesians 3:20
For years I spoke boldly about Jesus. I preached that He is the greatest gift ever given. And while I meant every word, somewhere along the way some of it became… programmed.
We Christians can slip into “Christianese.”
We talk big about faith.
We sound confident.
But living it? That’s different.
I thought my faith was bold — until this past year.
2025 reminded me:
“God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”James 4:6
Faith isn’t about sounding strong.Faith is about surrender.
The Greatest Gift — And the Gift Beside Me
Jesus truly is the greatest gift ever given:
“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son.”John 3:16
Born in a manger.Walking the road to Calvary.Rising in victory.
“He is not here; He has risen.”Luke 24:6
But God also gave me another incredible gift — my wife.
When I think back on how we met, I still shake my head and laugh:
“I’m so glad she didn’t see what a mess I was!”
God saw something in me I didn’t see. And somehow, He helped Lisa see it too.
“He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord.”Proverbs 18:22
Lisa is wise. Humble. Steady. Loving.
Her faith is simple in the very best way:
“If the Bible says it, I believe it.”
She doesn’t argue with God.She listens. She doesn’t walk blindly — she walks in the light:
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”Psalm 119:105
God knew exactly who I needed.
We Didn’t Walk This Road Alone
There’s something else we need to say — from the deepest place in our hearts:
This past year would have been nearly impossible if it wasn’t for our prayer warriors, financial supporters, and the unwavering presence of the Holy Spirit.
So many of you:
prayed us through
encouraged us
stood beside us
lifted our arms when we were tired
Like Aaron and Hur holding up Moses’ hands:
“When Moses’ hands grew tired… Aaron and Hur held his hands up.”Exodus 17:12
And Scripture reminds us:
“Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.”Galatians 6:2
We are not doing this alone — and we are beyond grateful.
Flawed, Loved, and Called
I am flawed. I am broken. And yet:
“My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.”2 Corinthians 12:9
When I look back — and ahead — I see His plan unfolding. I see His faithfulness.
“Great is Your faithfulness.”Lamentations 3:23
Today — one year to the day — I sit with tears in my eyes, humbled and thankful, fully aware that every blessing comes from Him:
“Every good and perfect gift is from above.”James 1:17
God is great. God is faithful. And He is worthy of all our praise.
“Glory to God in the highest.”Luke 2:14
Merry Christmas.
