In the meantime...

Several years ago, Pastor Judah Smith shared a message we thought was called “In the Meantime.” Funny thing is, we’ve never been able to find it since! When I texted Judah (thanks for replying, Judah!), even he couldn’t remember the message. (So Judah… if you ever find that one, let us know!)
Still, the premise stuck with us — and wow, how relevant it feels today.
Judah asked a simple but powerful question:“What do you do in the meantime?”That season when it feels like God isn’t using you. When you feel stuck, waiting, wondering. What do you do then?
The Bible is full of “meantime” stories. One of the most striking is the Israelites’ forty years in the desert — forty years of wondering and waiting! Thankfully, we don’t have to wait that long, but even in shorter seasons of waiting, our hearts ache to walk in what God has called us to: serving and loving the people of Scotland.
So, what are we doing in the meantime?
For Lisa, it’s tough. She’s up every morning at 5:15, off to work, home for dinner, a quick episode of Jeopardy, then bed — a real-life version of Groundhog Day. Weekends? Usually taken up by open houses. (Huge thanks to our amazing realtor, Nancy, for all her time and dedication!)Even so, we’re choosing to serve where we can — learning, preparing, and growing in what it means to live as missionaries.
As for me, my days are filled with phone calls, emails, and follow-ups — doing everything possible to connect with potential supporters. We’re sitting at 86% funded, with just 14% to go! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: support raising is no joke! It can feel repetitive, but keeping our eyes fixed on the mission makes every moment worthwhile.
And that’s really what “the meantime” is about — choosing.Choosing faith over frustration.Choosing to serve instead of sit still.Choosing to be available for whatever God wants to do right now.
So, in our meantime, Lisa and I are doing what we know to do — serving the Lord with open hands and hopeful hearts. Whatever He calls us to, wherever He leads, we’re saying yes.
To all our supporters — thank you. Truly. Your faithfulness, encouragement, and prayers mean more than we can express. You’re part of this story, and we couldn’t imagine walking it without you. Your love keeps us focused and fueled.
We can’t wait to share more good news from Scotland soon.Let’s go — together!
→ We’d love to hear from you!
